What is e-shram?
It is a portal launched by the ministry of labour and employment to make a national database about unorganised labour/workers in the country to facilitate better implementation of various social security schemes for the welfare of all unorganised workers of the country.
What is database?
Data means set of information and base means here is foundation on which government policy decision rests. this data act as a base for decision making?
Features of this portal:
- it provides a digital/electronic "e-shram card" on registration with a unique "universal account number"(UAN) which will allow him/her to access the benefit of the various social security scheme through this card across the country and will aid the delivery of the social security schemes to any registered entity.
- any unorganised workers can register himself/herself by visiting on e-shram portal or through nearest common service centre (CSC).
- there is no registration fee. workers are not required to pay any charge to registering authority means it is totally free of cost.
Accidental insurance :
There is a provision of 2.0 lakh Accidental insurance covers for every registered unorganized workers through "Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana" automatically.
- If a worker is registered on portal and meets with an accident, he will be eligible for 2 lakh on death or permanent disability.
- On partial disability 1 lakh will get.
Key Objectives of this portal are:
- creation of centralised database of all unorganised workers;
- to improve the implementation of social security services for such workers;
- portability of social security and welfare benefits to migrant workers and construction workers;
- providing a comprehensive database to central and state government for taking decision on national crises like Covid-19.
- No need of multiple registration for unorganised workers for one by one scheme.
- No need to register from time to time after registering once, means "one nation one registration".
Eligibility criteria are:
- unorganised workers are eligible;
- members of EPFO/ESIC or NPS are not eligible;
- age should be between 16 to 59 years.
Requirements for registration:
- Aadhaar number
- mobile number linked with Aadhaar
- saving bank account number with IFSC code
Who are unorganised workers?
any workers who is home based workers, self employed, wage workers, unorganised sectors
it includes construction workers, migrant workers, shopkeepers, truck drivers, platform workers, domestic workers, foiehermen, milkmen, agricultural workers, rishka pullers, street vendors, workers etc., engaged in organised sectors but are not beneficiary of NPS or EPFO.
