Poona Sarvajanik Sabha, Indian Association Of Calcutta, Madras Mahajan Sabha, Bombay Presidency Sabha

Poona Sarvajanik Sabha  It was organized by Justice Ranade and others in 1870 in Poona ( Maharastra).  Indian Association Of Calcutta   It was founded by Surendranath Banerjea and Anand Mohan Bose in July 1876 in Calcutta, West Bengal. Many branches of it were opened in villages and many other towns outside Bengal. Low membership fee was to attract poorer classes.  Surendra nath Banerjea was India's first Indian Civil service officer who became political leader. Madras Mahajan Sabha It was organized in 1884, in Madras ( now Chennai) Tamilnadu by M. Viraraghavachari, G Subramanyam Iyer, Ananda Charlu and others.  Bombay Presidency Sabha This Sabha was organised in 1885,  Bombay ( now Mumbai,Maharastra)  Pherozashah Mehta, K.T. Telang, Badruddin Tyabji and others.

Indian Civil Service

Lord Cornwallis the Governor General of India came in 1786. And, he had introduced Indian Civil Service to prevent corruption and increased the salaries of the official of East India company. He did not permitted to Indians to hold any Higher services including Civil services as he believed that Indians were corrupt. In 1800, Lord Wallesley established the college of Fort William at Culcutta for the education of young recruits to Civil service. In 1853, by the Charter Act, it was proposed to select the Civil service officials through the Competitive examination which were earlier selected by the board of directors of company.  Indian Civil service became gradully world’s most precious, powerful, the highest salaried, efficient post.
