UTTARAKHAND
Aipan: it is an established folk art from Kumaon region Almora district. It is drawn mainly on special occasions like weddings, festivals and other household ceremonies and rituals.
Features:
- It is an art of painting by using hand made colours.
- Aipan is drawn mainly on walls and floors, daily used objects, police designation plates, name plates and clothing etc.
- It is painted at the entrance of the house in the courtyard and on the walls of houses.
- The colour of the art is made from rice flour, Geru ( brick colour) and other materials used in worship specialy made by women.
- It has social, cultural and religious aspects in the hill states.
