  •  It was a orthodox evil practice to burn widow alive on her husband's pyre without her will. This practice was largely followed by the higher classes of the society. 
    • It was William bentinck who made it a crime against humanity in 1829 and strongly supported by Rajaram Mohan Ray.
    • It was the main achievement of British government in India to to modernise the societies of India 
    • Government of India passed an act in 1856 to enable widow remarriage and Pandit Iswar Chandra Vidya Sagar had requested for making law regarding widow remarriage. 
  • Government of India tried to practice of killing women infanticide and dowry system.
