31 October is the birth anniversary of Iron man Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

  •  Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was:
    • The first Home Minister of independent India 
    • The First Deputy Prime Minister of India 
  • It was announced by the Indian Prime minister to celebrate the Birthday of India's first home Minister Sri Sardar Patel as 'National Unity Day' in 2014 and also announced 'Run For Unity' to keep the nation united and to inspire the young generation.
  • Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel was the architect of Indian national integration for his unity  and integrity of India.
  • After independence, there  were many princely states, which were reluctant to join the republic of India 
  • The devious policy of the British, to weaken India, gave the princely states an option that they could either join India or Pakistan of their own free will or remain independent. 
  • Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel the home minister and deputy prime minister of India started campaign for the integration of India and ensured all the princely states join India. 
  • Sardar Patel ( The Iron Man of India ) after the Independence in 1947, united more than 550 princely state as Single United nation and made India to go forward. 
  • He sent Indian navy at right time to 'Lakshadweep' and made it part of India which was a separate state. 
  • "Unity and Integrity" was the dream of Sardar ji  for India.
Statue of Unity 
  • In the honour of Sardar Ji's contribution in freedom movement and to make India Unite, Indian government decided to built  the world's highest Statue of Sardar ji on the bank of river Narmada, 35 km from the Sardar Sarovar Dam at Kewadia in Gujarat state of India.
  • It is 182 meter high about twice of Statue of liberty.
  • It has become the pilgrimage site for Indian and the tourist place for foreigners that attracting large number of tourists every year.
  • Location: 
    • On the bank of River Narmada;
    • 35 km from Sardar Sarovar Dam;
    • At Kewadia in Gujarat state of Republic of India.
