16th East Asia Summit
The East Asia Summit is the premier leaders-led forum in the Indo-Pacific and was came in existence in 2005.
- Since its inception in 2005, it has played a significant role in strategic and geopolitical evolution of East Asia and once a year annul summit is being held.
- Member countries: Apart from 10 ASEAN member states East Asia includes India, China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, the US , Republic of Korea and Russia.
- 10 ASEAN( Association of South East Asian Nation) countries are:
- Myammar
- Thailand
- Laos
- Indonesia
- Malaysia
- Philippines
- Singapore
- Vietnam
- Cambodia
- Brunei
- India
- China
- Japan
- The US
- Russia
- Australia
- New Zealand
- Republic of Korea
- India being a founding member of the East Asia Summit is committed to strengthening the East Asia Summit and making it more effective for dealing with contemporary challenges.
- It is also an important platform for furthering practical cooperation in Indo Pacific by building upon the convergence between (ASEAN OUTLOOK ON INDO-PACIFIC) (AOIP) and INDO PACIFIC OCEAN INITIATIVE (IPOI).
- Challenges: there are few dialogue issues such as:
- economic recovery
- terrorism
- mental health
- maritime security
- tourism
