JAL JEEVAN MISSION
(JJM)
National JAL JEEVAN MISSION was announced by the Prime Minister of India on 15th August 2019 from the Red Fort to provide tap water connection to every household of the country by 2024.
For this purpose a separate ministry has been created country with the name of "Ministry of Jal Shakti".
Priority sectors:
- Water scarce areas
- Quality affected villages
- Aspirational districts
- Scheduled castes(SCs)/Scheduled tribes(STs)areas
- Sanshad Adarsh Gram Villages
Water quality monitoring & surveillance activities: These are to be given top priority, for which anganwadi workers, ASHA workers (accredited social health activists), members of S.H.G.(self help group), members of Panchayati Raj institutions (PRIs), school teachers etc, are being trained so that they can test water sample for contamination at water sources and delivery point using field test kits (FTKs).
Water testing group consists of: in every village five persons, specially women, are being trained on the use of field test kits to test water quality supplied, conduct sanitary surveys, and upload the data on JJM portal.

Jal jeeevan mission is a bottom top approach where community play important role from planning to implementation, management, operation and maintenance.
For this state governments have to undertake support activities like Pani Samiti/ villages water and sanitation committees, developing villages action plans for five years, engaging Implementing State Agencies (ISAs) to handhold and support village communities to carryout awareness among villagers.
AADHAAR LLINKING:
- government has decided to link the AADHAAR of the head of the household to promote transparency, accounting, effective fund utilization.
GEO-TAGGING: the water supply infrastructure laid down is being geo-tagged.
INTERNET OF THINGS DEVICE: JJM is using technology for piped water supply and measurement which is sensor based IoT device to capture data.
ONLINE DASHBOARD : an online JJM dashboard have been launched to share the uploaded data to the state government , district management, village wise progress of provision of tap water supply in rural areas.
JJM IN UTTAR PRADESH :U.P. government has decided to meet the center sector scheme through Har Ghar Jal Mission by 2024.
Central Government has allocated to Uttar Pradesh fund for JJM are:
- In 2019-2020, allocated Rs 1,206 Crores
- In 2020-21, allocated Rs 2,571 Crores
- And has allocated 10870.50 crore for the year 2021-22
Needs of U.P.
In Uttar Pradesh there are 2.63 crore households in 97thousands villages, out of which now 30.04 lakh (11.3%) have tape water supply in their homes. before the launch of jal jeeevan mission only 5.16 lakh(1.96%) had tap water supply.underJJM, U.P. government has provided tap water supply 24.8 lakh (9.45%) households after launch. Despite there are about 2.33 crores households without tap water supply.
vindhyachal and bundelkhand regions are most affected with lack of water supply.
- Bundelkhand Region ( 7 districts namely, Jhansi, Mahoba,Lalitpur Jalaun,Hamirpur, Banda, and Chitrakoot)
- Vindhyachal Region comprises two districts namely Mirzapur and Sonbhadra.
Fund allocated to U.P
- For this central government allocated 10870.50 crore for financial year 2021-22 to U.P. government.
Purposes
- Ministry of Jal shakti pushes for work to begin in 60,000 villages and to provide 78 lakh piped water connection in 2021-22in U.P.
- Ministry pushes for piped water supply in 177 (53 fluoride affected habitation and 124 arsenic affected habitation ) water cantaminted habitation.
- The aim is to provide 2.5 lakh people 55 litre per cpita per day watwer supply.
- To ensur safe drinking water supply in school and Anganwadi centre for children.
- To prepare a plan with the technical support from the public health engineers in villages.
- To present this plan before the Gram Sabha.
- Every village should have a "village water and sanitation committees"(VWSCs) for playing avn ative role in implementation, management, operation, and maintenance of water supply system in villages.
- To support activities like strenthening and empowering the PANI SAMITI for finalisation of five year village action plan (VAPs).
- To make villages model village.
- 5 women in each villages will be appointed for
- Regular water testing by kits of driking water sources and delivery points
- To monitor the quality and surveillance activities.
Center allocated Rs 3,483 crore for JJM for 2021-22 to Andhra-pradesh
