ANTI DRONE SYSTEM

DRDO has developed new indigenous technology to counter the drone attack of enemies. Anti drone system has been developed by the defence research and development and manufacud by Bharat Elecronics Limited (BEL).

It is capable of counter attack including:

  1. Detection
  2. Soft kill - for jamming the communication link of  hostile drone
  3. Hard kill- for destroying by using laser technology and being used for defense.
  • The Indian signed a contract with the  ( BEL) for India`s first indigenously developed naval anti drone system ( NADS). Both static and mobile version of NADS will be supplied to the navy. for this BEL will sign contrct with army and airforce also.
  • The anti drone sysetm will give Indian military both 'soft kill' and 'hard kill' option  to tackle the new and fast emerging aerial threats.
  • NADS can instantly and jam micro drones and use a laser basedd kill mechnisms to terminate targets. It will be an effective , all compassing counter to the incresed drone threats to strtegic naval installations.
  • The counter drone technology uses a variety of methods to neutralise the danger from aerial attacks. The solution consists of:
    • Radar system that offer a 360 degree coverage with detection of micro drones when they are 4 km away;
    • Elecrto / optical infrared sensors for detection of micro drones up to 2km ;
    • Radio frequency (RF) detector to detect RF communication up to 3km.
Challenges : aerial theats posed by terrorits, threats to naval installations  and border security.
for example, the jammu drone attack was the watershed in asymmetric warfare and underlined the need for the armed forrces to build capabilities to counter the aerial threats.
