The labour bureau an attached office of ministry of labour and employment has been compiling consumer price index for industrial workers every month on the basis of retail prices collected from 317 markets spread over 88 industrially important centers in the country. 

  • The index is comiled for 88 centres and all India and is released on the last working day of succeeding month. 
  • It comprises various groups:
    • Food beverages 
    • Pan, supari, tobacco, intoxicant 
    • Clothing and footwear 
    • Housing 
    • Fuel & light
    • Miscellaneous 
  • General inflation for July 2021, went down to 5.27% compared to 5.57% of previous month 
  • Food inflation also decreased  from previous month from 5.61% to 4.91%.
