Human rights?
Human rights are moral principles or norms for certain standards of human behaviors and are regularly protected and promoted.
Such as fundamental rights " to which a person is inherently entitled simply because of being human being and which are " inherent in all human being regardless their age, ethnic origin, sex, race, language, location, religion etcetera.
They are applicable everywhere, every time to everyone in the sense of being universal and they are egalitarian in the sense of being the same everyone.
Such as:
- Free speech
- Right to Education
- Right to food
- Right to Life
- Right to expression
- Right to fair trial
- Prohibition of Genocide
- Freedom of belief and religion
- Women rights
- LGBT rights
- Rights of ethnic minority
- Etcetera
UNITED NATIONS HUMAN RIGHTS COUNCIL
UN RIGHTS COUNCIL
It is an organ of UNO, which was established by the UNGA in 2006 by replacing the UN commission on human rights (UNCHR).
The United Nations Council in Geneva, Switzerland is made up of 47 members states elected by UNGA in New York.
Mandates:
"The UN council is tasked with strengthening the promotion and protection the Human Rights worldwide, addressing violation and making recommendations"
Features :
- The term of each seat is 3 years
- A country can only serve for 2 consecutive terms means only 6 years a country can continue the seats
- The membership is split proportionately by geographical region
- A third of the council is elected every year
- geographical region are:
- Africa- 13 countries
- Asia - 13 countries
- Eastern Europe- 6 countries
- Latin America - 8 countries
- Western Europe-7 countries
