What is Pegasus Spyware?
Spyware is a malicious software which is installed on a computing device ( mobile and laptop) without user's consent.
Pegasus Spyware is a software designed by an Israeli technology firm.
Issues:
- It is used to gather information about the users and relays it to third-party
- It violates the fundamental rights of the user right to privacy(Article-21) and freedom of speech guaranteed under the (Article-19) of the constitution of India.
- It tracks phones of various Indian citizens - including journalists, activists, lawyers, and politicians.
- Challenged the national security by state actors.
- It involves several serious allegations of indiscrimination surveillance.
- It destroyed interpersonal trust and corrodes the fabric of society, characterised by abuse of power.
Note- Supreme Court has formed its own a technical committee for investigation whether Pegasus Spyware is use of for Indian citizens by central government or state government and to suggest measures regarding this, if it is so. The committee is headed by farmer SC judge and a senior retired IPS officers.
What is national security?
National security means making the people secure against the government and others threatening organizations. Because a nation includes people and People are not government but are secured by government so the security of the people of a nation is the national security of the nation against the government by the government instead of to secure government of its powers over the people.
