Read And Write Campaign 

It is a central government's literacy scheme to teach people of India aged15 and above to read and write and was launched in 2020-21 during pandemic by the Ministry of human resources and development (MHRD).

Work force :Under this mission with the help of teachers serving and retired, shikshamitas, students, NCC, and NSS volunteers,  will be educated above aged 15. And Children from class 8th to 10th will teach their illetrate parents. 

Purposes: The main purpose is to educate each and every people of India via various initiatives and techniques to increase the literacy rate of country before next upcoming sensus.

  • National Council of Education and Research and Training (NCERT) has also prepared a dedicated 120 hours course aimed at transforming illetrate into literates.
  • The aim is to form small groups of eight to ten illiterate people and teach them.
  • This scheme is also focus on basic literacy components.
  • To enable the people to read and comprehend unknown text (newspapers, heading, road signs, letter writing,  reading etc.
  • 120 hours learning program over span of 4 month. 

Priority ares:

The scheme Special focus is on women, schedule castes(SCs) ,scheduled tribes (STs),minorities,  other disadvantaged groups, Aspirational districts.

This practice was largely followed by the higher classes of the society.  It was William bentinck who made it a crime against humanity in 1829 and strongly supported by  Rajaram Mohan Ray.
