Government of India has taken various measures to transform the urban india and launched 3mission on 25 June 2015.

  1. Smart Cities Mission (SCM)
  2. Pradhan mantri awas yojana- urban (PMAY-U)
  3. Atal Mission for urban Rejuvenation and urban transformation (AMRUT)

Smart Cities Mission 

It was launched by the Indian prime minister Sri Narendra Modi in 2015 with an aim to develop 100 smart cities in India. Smart cities mission aimed to bring about a paradigm shift in practice of urban development in the country.

TULIP
The urban learning internship program was launched on 4th June 2020 in partnership with AICTE. TULIP is a platform to connect graduates to urban local bodies and smart cities to create new solutions for cities. 

Pradhan mantri awas yojana- urban (PMAY-U)

Vision- Housing for all by 2022

Under awas yojana government are providing cash transfer directly in the bank accounts of the beneficiaries for their own  house construction by 2022. So far 1.12 Crores houses have been sanctioned of which 83 lakh houses are grounded and  more than 50 lakh have completed.
Various measures were taken by government to facilitate housing schemes for all.
  • Direct benefit transfer 
  • Real time monitoring 
  • National urban housing fund given loans 
  • Affordable housing fund given loans
  • Providing interest subsidy on loans under credit linked subsidy scheme (CLSS)
Affordable rental housing complexes (ARHCs)
A sub-scheme under PMAY-U for migrant workers/ poor workers. 

Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and  urban transformation (AMRUT) 

It is the first focused national water mission and was launched on 25th June 2015 in 500 cities, covering 60% of urban population. All cities having population above 1lakh are covered under mission. 

Focus areas

It has a reform agenda with focus on e-governance, energy audit , credit rating of urban local bodies,  efficient town planning,  online building permission system

Purposes:
  • Providing piped water supply and Sewerage and septage management in mission cities.
  • Storm water drainage facility 
  • Non-motorized urban transport 
  • Green spaces and parks 
  • Installation of sewage treatment plant (STPs)
  • Use of Geographical information systems(GIS) for master planning of cities 
  • Use of remote sensing technological photographs for town planning, land use map, and data analysis.
