  Inter states border disputes  Mizoram and Assam Mizoram was a district of Assam before it was carved out as a union territory in 1971 after years of insurgency and district border did not  really matter. Mizoram   border dispute with Assam goes back to 1971-72 when Mizoram was first carved out as a union territory ( it became a state in 1987). The two states share a 164.6 km border between the Assam's districts of cachar, Hailakandi, and Karimganj and Mizoram's kolasib, Mamit  and Aizawl district.  The border dispute cropped up after formation of union territory that as a perceptions over where the boundary should be differed.
